Somewhat related to this: When splitting a record, when you enter the amount to split off, it would be really helpful to see the remainder that is left on the original record.

Or even allow the user to enter a tax rate so that you can enter the original price of an item that you want to split out, and it calculates the tax on that amount for you.

For example, I'm shopping at Target and I've bought clothing and pet food. I want to split $43 in pet food to my Pet category, but the entire transaction was taxed at 7.75%. I don't want to open up a separate calculator and figure out that the real amount to split off is $46.33.

I agree with the previous commenter, just let us change the categories however we want, because we will never all agree on something. I ended up doing a TON of renaming categories when I first set up the app but it would have been easier if I could have just deleted all the categories it came with and started over with my own.

Yes! many retailers allow you to split a purchase between multiple payment methods.

I also think some of the other issues listed could be solved with a similar approach, like linking records together with different types of "links".
If you've ever used Jira, you'll be familiar with the concept.

    For example
    - for refunds or reimbursements this record is "reimbursed by" another record
    - for payments from different accounts, this record is "merged with" another record to create the complete transaction
    - for a scenario where you make a payment to someone by transferring to a shared account, the record is "paid by transfer"
    etc.

As a software developer, I would recommend to the BudgetBakers team to using a library like Capacitor or Cordova to generate your native mobile code from the web code, it will make your life a lot easier and make everyone happier.

I see this feature in the mobile app now, but not on web! It is so frustrating when they are different!

There are also some useless premade filters that automatically show up on mobile, but only my custom saved filters show up on web.
And there shouldn't be separate entry points into instant filter or configuring a filter to save either... very confusing. Why not just show all the fields to filter on when you land on the records page, and have a button to allow the user to save them, on both mobile and web? If the user decides to save, then prompt for a name for the filter.

It kind of seems like this app is designed by developers and you haven't consulted a UX professional. It would be well worth the investment.

This is especially important if the transaction was actually done on the last day of the month but doesn't clear until the first day of the next month. Not being able to edit the date, or at least have a separate field for the actual transaction date, messes up monthly budgets!!
